"Under a Tucson Sun" by M.R. Potavin
Shadows fracture across his face
in sand scarred divots
heavy lidded eyes placate
above a sign
“Will Do Anything For Food”
He doesn’t know Osama
Indifference drives past
with a plastic flag snapping
He is scenery
common like the red prickly pears
rotting on the road side
He would not send men to die
The sun, set in orchid highlights
pauses on its end
A piece of crust his prize
The ease with which we all look away
the sign will still be there
tomorrow

I am 29 and currently residing in Phoenix, Arizona. I moved here about six
months ago, for a second try at the sunshine state. I am a graduate of the
University of Arizona with a degree in creative writing. After college, I
moved to Bayonne NJ, which inspired a good deal of my work. I am a benevolent
anarchist who believes there are powers in this universe that are greater
than myself, but I am very anti-religious. I am inspired by Walt Whitman,
Edgar Allen Poe and Kahlil Gibran.
