Spotlight on John Haynes
Dear White
Dear White
In this subtle age of reconciliation
I must choose my words colorfully
So as not to upset the cart of
Integration - so Ill say what I have
to say like this:
There are no Aunt Jemimas or Uncle Bens
Or Cream of Wheat Men even though
You can still see them
There are no Dixieland propaganda mansions
Inhabited by Hattie McDaniel or Butterfly
McQueen even though you can still watch them
And there are no epithets that can express
The abject absurdity of words that you have
Allowed to survive just so you can still
Use them
Dear White
Bales of bales of rotten cotton lies are
bought and sold on American auction
Blocks and if you are a buyer you have
Poisoned yourself
John Haynes: I am 38 years old and in the last few months,
my work has appeared in a number of literary journals including
the In Posse Review on Webdelsol, The Samsara Quarterly, and
Comrades Magazine. It is also forthcoming in several of them
including Thunder Sandwich, Gnome, and Literary Potpourri. Though
I have been writing off and on for the past 15 plus years, I
just recently starting submitting some of my pieces. I believe
that we all need to release our passion on what we are called
to do in this world because now more than ever, the world needs
it. Also now more than ever, the world needs individuals willing
to speak out and take a stand. It is the ongoing goal of my
life to be one of those individuals.
