"The Impressionables"

"...synthesis, at last!" Mr. Grimm continued. "The two chemists were unable to contain their excitement, and they went public with their genetic findings on November 17th, 1947, which was the same day th-" and the fluttering of the bell interrupted him. Like spiders splitting in all directions from a torn sac, the children fled their desks, and the hallway became a jerking river of sweaty bodies and chatter. Roger Grimm's body ached, and he leaned back in his chair in the empty classroom and groaned at the tension. He looked at the door; nobody could see him from the hallway, and he unzipped and began to tug gently, feeling warm relief course through him, and he closed his eyes. He was close when a small voice said, "Mr. Grimm," and then, "Mr. Grimm?" and he opened his eyes.
